Orthodontics is the specialty of dentistry that deals with the treatment and diagnosis of facial and dental irregularities.
Orthodontic treatment is the branch that treats shape and image disorders or alignment problems in the teeth, jaws and face area.
Possible Causes of Orthodontic Disorders
Congenital anomalies (such as cleft lip, palate),
Harmful habits (such as thumb sucking, using a pacifier for a long time),
Faulty functions (such as mouth breathing),
Due to hereditary factors,
Early loss of milk teeth due to caries,
Traumas such as teeth grinding or falling, impact,
Orthodontic treatments are of great importance for oral health as well as aesthetics. Since crooked teeth are difficult to clean, they cause caries and gum disease.
After the braces are attached, slight redness may occur on the inner side of the lips and cheeks. but all these will be reduced to a minimum within 1 week.
If we consider the importance of a beautiful smile in human relations, many people prefer orthodontic treatment for health and appearance.
Brackets and wires made of porcelain or metal (apparatuses that are attached to the teeth and transmit the force through which the wires pass) are often used in orthodontic treatment.
The person who will decide which material the braces will be made of should be an Orthodontist.
Wires and porcelain brackets are more preferred because they increase patient happiness aesthetically.
Treatments are applied using aesthetic brackets and wires, almost invisible from the outside.
Bracket Types
Metal Brackets
Today, metal brackets are the ones that come to mind often when it comes to braces/brackets. They are metal devices made of high quality stainless steel that are adhered to the teeth. The metal brackets used today are smaller, more comfortable and aesthetic than before. A thin wire, called the arch wire, passes through the middle of the brackets/braces and this wire is attached to the brackets with elastic or wire ties. Metal brackets provide faster treatment due to less friction with arch wires. If desired, it can be colored with elastics.
Damon Brackets/ Self Ligating Brackets
This type of bracket has caps and the archwire slides freely within the groove of the bracket. The arch wire is attached to the brackets by means of caps, no elastic or metal ties are used. Treatment is faster as friction is less.
Ceramic Brackets
These opaque white brackets are less visible. Although the color is more aesthetic, it is slightly larger and may have more food accumulation. It is more fragile, needs to be used more carefully, so it is more suitable for adult patients. Since the friction is a little bit more, the treatment time may be a little longer with ceramic brackets.
Invisalign/ Wireless Treatment
It is a type of orthodontic treatment, also known as wireless treatment, performed with transparent movable plaques. Personalized transparent plaques are produced, the number of plaques varies according to the amount of crowding.
Lingual Brackets
They are brackets that are attached to the back of the teeth and are invisible from the outside. Custom brackets are produced, so they cost more.
